Web & Infrastructure Developer

Position Description

As a member of the WinZip Computing team, the Web & Infrastructure Developer will work on various front and back end solutions for the web services group.  In this role the developer will develop code that runs on various platforms, including MS Windows on the client side, and Linux on the server side, as well as the networking code to interface the various environments.  The ideal candidate will have programming skills in a number of languages, including but not limited to C, C++, C# & PERL, and experience working with TCP/IP protocols and services.  Previous experience programming against various database engines including MS SQL, MySQL and PostgreSQL is a plus.

Essential Functions:

  • Transform documented concepts and requirements into a programmed solution.
  • Seek out, evaluate and utilize existing API’s, SDK’s and code snippets to accelerate the development process.
  • Assist in the architectural design of solutions.
  • Work with the web services team members to design and develop network protocols that will interface the client and server solutions.
  • Provide support to the WinZip product developers in the integration of the web services solutions with the WinZip product line.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise documentation, both in the code in the form of comments, but also as API/SDK documentation that can be provided to other developers to code against.
  • Debug and fix issues
  • Ability to work independent of direct supervision, working from a defined specification.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of relevant web services development experience
  • Experience programming in the .NET framework, using the Visual tools.
  • Experience in object-oriented programming techniques and programming to patterns.
  • Experience programming on Linux platforms, such as RedHat.
  • Strong JavaScript skills
  • Experience with XML &  AJAX
  • Experience with server side scripting languages, such as PHP or PERL.
  • Experience with template driven systems, such as the Perl Template Toolkit.
  • Working knowledge of version control systems, ideally Subversion (SVN).
  • Previous experience with defect tracking systems, ideally Bugzilla.
  • Must be a proactive self-starter
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
  • Fluency in other languages that align with the WinZip supported languages a plus.
  • HTML and CSS skills a plus.
  • Experience with JavaScript libraries, such as jQuery a plus.
